Witness and experience the creativity that young adults in Taos bring to the Encore gallery, as they explore loneliness and connection. In this multi-media exhibit, emotion takes many forms and art forms a strong connection between each individual artist.
About the exhibition
All of the works within this exhibit have been created by current and alumni Inter-Arts Interns, as well as young artists across Taos county, ranging in age from 16 to 30. There is a strong emphasis on youth voices. This comes from recognizing a lack of youth-led spaces and a desire to empower creativity in youth. “A Crowd of Single Minds” invites young artists to explore loneliness and community, and to be appreciated for their creativity and talent.
“Art is our way of understanding our emotions, and is our way of turning uncomfortable feelings like loneliness into something beautiful. When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable in a creative way, we can find that connection and stability that we need.” – Taylor Streit, Taos High School Senior and Current TCA Intern
“I love having the ability to create an opportunity and space for people in the same age range as me to express themselves and be creative! I feel as though opportunities for youth in Taos can often be limited, especially for those in their adolescence, so being able to change that even if just a little feels really empowering and inspiring!” – Kaili Brown, Taos High School Senior and Current TCA Intern
About TCA Inter-Arts Internship Program
TCA’s Inter-Arts Internship Program provides paid work-learning opportunities to youth and young adults (ages 16-30) both onsite at TCA, as well as arts and culture organizations across Taos County.
Youth develop hands-on skills in administration, communications, design, event production, audio-visual tech, and more, through projects at TCA and other work sites. Internships are 3-12 months and mentorship from experienced professionals is combined with peer-to-peer learning.
Since 2021, participation has grown tenfold, scaling from 5 to over 50 youth annually, and TCA has grown a network of over 20 partners across the county. So far this network has included: architecture agencies, government-funded cultural projects, playhouses, circus arts theaters, archival libraries, art museums, graphic design studios, film festivals and more.
