Bedrock to Bark: Landscape change and deep time
- This event has ended See what’s on now
- Juan I. Gonzales Agricultural Center Taos, NM
About this event
A “geofantasizing” journey through millions of years of disturbance to today’s landscape-scale changes.
Through interactive field talks on geologic history and forest change, we hope to help reframe present‑day disturbances—like beetle kill, wildfires and thinning projects—within the much larger story of ecosystem transformation across the Earth’s lifespan.
(For instance: Did you know that the ancient atmosphere had an abundance of oxygen, which fueled extreme fire behavior?)
Hear from geologists and foresters from UNM-Taos and the New Mexico Forestry Division and dive into an art journaling activity to reflect on deep‑time perspectives.
