LOCATION:Taos Center for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Jolie Holland w/ AJ Woods \n\nTHU\, October 15\, 7pm\n\nGet Ti
 ckets Here\n\nEncore Gallery @ TCA\n\nJolie Holland\n\nAmerican multi-inst
 rumentalist\, bandleader\, producer\, and singer-songwriter and co-founder
of the Canadian band The Be Good Tanyas\, Jolie Holland has been on the r
oad since the early 2000s. She has released eight of her own albums and co
ntributed to countless others. Her work has been described as a syncretiza
tion of American roots\, with rock and experimental elements.\n\nShe’s b
een in the studio with Booker T\, Lucinda Williams\, TV On The Radio and T
hor Harris\; and shared stages with Big Thief\, St. Vincent\, Elbow\, and
Mavis Staples. Her collaborators have included Hal Willner\, Kronos Quarte
t\, and Boots Riley. Lou Reed once told her\, “I could have listened to
you all night.”\n\nAJ Woods \n\nBorn and raised in Albuquerque\, New Me
xico\, AJ Woods has been a part of the Southwest music scene for over a de
cade. He has released multiple full-length albums\, a critically acclaimed
EP\, as well as singles and live recordings\, earning comparisons to arti
sts such as Jason Molina and Neil Young. Still\, “Woods’ lyrical style
\, guitar playing and singing are his own—something that can’t often b
e said.” (Alibi)\n\nWoods’ latest album\, Hawk Is Listenin’\, was re
corded and produced by Jeremy Barnes and features a multigenerational cast
of New Mexico musicians\, including Heather Trost and Jimmy Stallings (JJ
Light). The record received an 8/10 review from Uncut\, which called it
“suitably sun-baked\, like Neil Young stumbling and lost in the Albuquer
que heat.” KLOF Mag wrote that Hawk Is Listenin’ “looks inside the s
oul” and later included it in its 2024 Albums of the Year coverage\, whi
le Americana UK awarded the album 7/10.\n\nWoods has shared bills with art
ists including Big Thief\, The Handsome Family\, A Hawk and a Hacksaw\, Jo
lie Holland and Jimmy Stallings\, among many others. With music and lyrics
that are “poignant and powerful” (ABQ Free Press)\, Woods creates not
only songs\, but “unpretentious poetry.” (Alibi) Earlier coverage fro
m Folk Radio UK—now KLOF Mag—called his work “something exceptional\
,” selecting it as Song of the Day.\n\nIn times like these\, Woods’ mu
sic and words are grounding forces. They take us back to the earth on whic
h we live and depend\, remind us that we have hearts\, bones that break an
d heal\, blood that leaves\, blood we can share. They show we are related
to\, made by\, and capable of many things.\n\nAll sales are final and no r
efund will be issued. If you have questions concerning our return policy\,
